Difference between Se and Si

Function SENSATION enables a person to operate in the physical (material) world – the realm of the physical objects and the physical interactions.

SENSING types perceive with the 5 senses the physical properties (tangible data) of one’s body and of the external objects. Focus on internal bodies sensations, movement, location, visual-spatial-kinesthetic information, external appearance of objects, force, physical energy, shape, (physical) beauty, color, consistency, taste, temperature etc. Ability to express oneself with one's body and use one's hands to interact with the physical world: making things, craft. They act with practicality and realism.

Function SENSATION can have an introverted or extraverted orientation, depending on the direction of a person's attention: attention focused on external objects or attention focused on internal connections between objects.

The Extraverted orientation contributes to the expansion in its area while the Introverted orientation contributes to stabilization in its area. EXTRAVERTED types initiate interactions with the new objects, act quickly and evaluate their influence primarily on the externally visible outcome, and secondly on their internal state. INTROVERTED types arrange and improve the inter-object relationships, act slowly and deeply. They evaluate their influence primarily on their internal condition (harmony, correctness), and secondly on the externally visible outcome.

???? Function SENSING Extraverted (Se) initiates physical interaction (pressure - resistance, opposition) with new objects (plants, animals, items, people, territories). The aim of physical influence on objects is the conquest of the objects (capture, possess, seize). As a result - the subordination to one’s physical strength, subjugation of the objects at the physical level.

Example: A person goes to the forest to gather berries and mushrooms. The forest is a new territory, berries and mushrooms are the new objects. The person interacts with new objects, picks berries and mushrooms (pressure - resistance, opposition) and seize them. As a result - subjugation of the objects (berries and mushrooms) at the physical level.

???? Function SENSING Introverted (Si) changes the physical parameters of objects (temperature, color, shape, location) with the aim of adjusting the objects to each other. The result is harmonization (ordering, equilibration) of the interconnections between physical objects (correlation, interlocation). Balance is the natural order; imbalance is disorder.

Example: A person removes physical imbalance due to cold and hunger. The person adjusts the physical parameters: changes environmental temperature (turns on the heating) and fills his stomach with food (eats). The result is harmonization of the temperature and nutritional balance.

✅ Attitude towards body

Both Se and Si types are in touch with their body sensations, aware of tangible physical processes, able to express themselves with their bodies (sport, dance), accustomed to interact with the physical world with their hands. They often have high bodily-kinesthetic intelligence. They may be drawn to careers that involve physical interaction.

They perceive bodily information about others. When meeting a person, they immediately evaluate his physical appearance, clothes, figure, physical condition and aware of other’s physical health. It is important for them to be physically attractive. They can be called esthetes, having a good taste in things and clothes.

Se types maintain physical strength and mobilization to interact with new objects.

Si types change external physical parameters to harmonize internal physical condition.

Sensing EXTRAVERTED types value movement and physical activity. They maintain their state of mobilization and readiness for action, able to train their body to boost their endurance and physical strength. Se types focus on how to deal with life’s challenging situations, to stand up against opponents and to (physically) defend themselves against attackers. To be stronger and more confident they improve their physical strength and stamina through exercise training, strength training, weight lifting, muscle gaining with bodybuilding, cold-water immersion.

Se focus on polarity: physical strength – physical weakness, physical activity – physical inactivity. They perceive bodily information about physical strength and readiness for action of a person.

Sensing INTROVERTED types value inner tranquility, peace and harmony. They maintain harmony of their internal physical state and able to provide bodily relaxation and recreation. Si types focus on how things around them affect their inner body sensations, sensitive to subtle sensory variations. They take action to remove the physical discomfort (dissonance or imbalance), relieve stress and tension to provide comfort and wellness. Si types are skilled at body treatment experiences: nutrition, hygiene, warming up, soaking in the warm water, massage, recreation and body restoration, spa experiences. They are attentive to tangible details: tasty food, soft and breathable clothing, comfortable bed, pleasant smell, comfortable temperature.

Si focus on polarity: physical relaxation – physical stress (tension), bodily comfort – bodily discomfort. They are skilled at recognizing their own internal state of physical relaxation or stress and others' internal states.

People with Se preference should be good at physical education and sports professions (martial arts, boxing, soccer, football, fitness, bodybuilding). The careers that suit them include: bodybuilder, professional athlete, athletic coach, physical education teacher, animal trainer as well as trades that require physical strength: loader, construction worker, heavy equipment operator.

People with Si preference should be good at physical activities such as sports and dance (dancers, choreographers, gymnasts) and in human service jobs: childcare (nanny), spa services, in health (nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, recreation therapy, massage) and veterinary medicine.
